1. Taj Falaknuma Palace

Falaknuma means “the mirror of the sky”, just like its name even the palace is beautifully constructed and built with pride and honor. The pride of Hyderabad was a dream project of Nawab Vikar-ul-Umra. He was the main architect and the designer of the gorgeous structure. Falaknuma Palace reflects the perfect blend of the Italian and Tudor architecture which shines with all its luxury and galore.

Today, the palace also functions as a luxury hotel and it is spread over an area of 32 acres. This palace ideally belonged to Paigah Hyderabad State and then it was transferred to one of the Nizam Mohammed Abeed. The foundation stone for the palace was laid in 1984 and it took 10 years to complete. The beautiful structure of the palace was designed by British architect William Mard Marret.

It was in the year 2000, that Prince Nizam Mukkaram Jah Bahadur leased out the palace to the Taj Hotels for further construction and renovation, and was transformed into a luxurious hotel in Hyderabad. 2. Chowmahalla Palace

The actual meaning of the palace is “4 Palaces” with ‘Chow’ meaning 4 n Urdu and ‘Mahalat’ meaning mahal or palaces. The palace resembles the Shah Palace of Tehran in Iran.

The construction was completed between 1857 to 1869 during the rule of the 5th Nizam, Afzar-ud-Daulah. The palace is spread across an area of 45 acres and it further extends from the Laad Bazaar in the north to the Aspan Chowk Road in the south. The palace was restored by the Government of India and re-opened to the public in 2005. You can visit the palace throughout the week except for Friday and national holidays.

The palace is huge and comprised of 2 main courtyards that are further divided into north and south courtyards. The southern courtyard has 4 more palaces and those are named as- Afzal Mahal, Tahniyat Mahal, Mahtab Mahal, and the Aftab Mahal. Open On- You can visit the palace throughout the week apart from Fridays and National Holidays.

3. Purani Haveli

Another popular and underrated palace for kids in Hyderabad is the Purani Haveli. Earlier it was also known as Haveli Khadeem. The palace also served as a royal residence for the Nizams for a long period of time. It is a U-Shaped palace complex built on a single-storied building that has been inspired by the European style of architecture.

Initially, the palace was established as the residential quarters of Mir Momen, who was also the Peshwa of Mohammed Quli Qutub Shah. Later the palace was acquired by Asaf Jah II, who was also the 2nd Nizam of Hyderabad in the 18th century. From there on the palace came to be known as Purani Haveli which means ‘Old Palace’.

Later, in the 19th century, the 6th Nizam of Hyderabad Nawab Mir Mahboob Ali Khan Siddiqi made this palace his official residence. Purani Haveli also houses a museum that consists of all the artifacts belonging to the Nizams. From souvenirs to momentos, the museum is a treasure in itself. From a 1930s Rolls-Royce to Jaguar Mark V, the museum will not disappoint you.

4. Hill Fort Palace

Another great palace for kids in Hyderabad is the Hill Fort Palace. The palace was constructed by the Chief Justice of the Nizam Government, Sir Nizamat Jung in 1915. However, later the Hill Fort Palace was sold to the government. To add to this, the Hill Fort Palace even served as a heritage hotel that was run by the Ritz Hotel Company.

The palace is situated in the heart of Hyderabad city near the Naubat Pahad. However, now the palace comes under the ownership of the Telangana Government. In the year 1955, the palace was leased out to the Ritz Hotel and for many years the palace was run as a popular hotel at that time it was the most modern and well-constructed hotel over there.

As time gradually passed by, in 1989 the lease was ended and the palace was converted into a heritage hotel on a permanent basis.

Timings- 11:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Open On- As of now it is under construction and the government has asked for its renovation.
