Infirmary

The safety and well-being of the young learners is of paramount importance. Notwithstanding the precautions and safety measures, there are times when students get involved in accidents within the school premises. The accidents could range from simple cuts and injuries to even serious wounds or fracture. Moreover, it is not unlikely for a child to experience indigestion or light-headedness during school hours. Therefore, housing an infirmary furnished with a certified nursing team and First-Aid equipment is a must. An in-school infirmary –

Acts as a means for quick treatment in a number of cases – bleeding, burns, heatstroke, unconsciousness, muscle injuries, choking, chest pains, asthma, allergic reactions, etc.
Prevents a situation from worsening. Though First-Aid is a temporary solution, it still prevents a situation from getting worse until the required help arrives
In a lot of cases, timely First-Aid can preserve the life of the individual

We at IIS believe that our students’ safety and well-being are of utmost importance. Our health services are extended to both students and staff members with a view of maximizing general health and awareness. Our infirmary is equipped with four beds and state-of-the-art medical equipment to meet the immediate health requirements of a child that may arise during school hours. A certified nurse is responsible for treating and looking after the children. The nurse also maintains a comprehensive record of each student’s medical history. This helps in catering to the unique health needs of every child. In case of emergencies, the student is taken to the nearest hospital while their parents are duly informed.

Canteen

Isn’t it simply amazing how food was not merely meant to satisfy bodily hunger but also holds the power to satisfy our soul’s hunger for communion when enjoyed with others? How many souls have bonded over a simple meal! The canteen, then, becomes a compelling inclusion to any school campus. A hygienic environment and nutrition-dense food are the two prime requisites for a school canteen.

It often happens that children, during the morning rush hours, come to school without having sufficient breakfast. Moreover, on some days the parent may find it challenging to even pack a wholesome lunch. This is especially the case with families where both the parents are working. Furthermore, children today are more likely to eat meals in front of a television screen which further reduces their appreciation for the food and the people they share it with. The school canteen is instrumental in instilling children with a reverence for the food they eat. There’s a reason why mealtime is considered sacred. Since children spend a good chunk of their day in schools, ensuring that their bellies are filled with food that meets their dietary requirements is crucial to their growth, development, and concentration in classes. Irregular meal cycle can lead to various health issues – anaemia, obesity, lower metabolism, impaired mental focus – chiefly in the long run.

We at IIS believe that health is not to be trifled with. Our canteen’s sanitary environment and the fresh, delicious, and healthful menu are sure to cater to the dietary needs of children of all ages. The canteen not only serves as a place to learn healthy eating habits but also plays an important part in building companionships.

Labs

Science is not simply a subject but permeates through all of life. Therefore, simply theoretical study will never suffice. Understanding science and its concepts require practical knowledge. Only when a child is able to look past their conventional teaching and books are they able to grasp science and its functionality in all its glory. The introduction of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) curriculum of education is imperative to a child’s understanding of natural sciences as it provides them with real-life situations to learn from. Effectual teaching and learning of science, therefore, can best take place in a laboratory. Children are not only able to relate what was taught in the classroom but their retention of such knowledge also increases when they see experiments being performed right in front of their eyes.

Moreover, children are able to think deeply about the theories and concepts they were taught in class through their practical application. It’s like the entire theory just comes to life and holds new meaning to them. Lab experiments also improve a child’s reasoning abilities. It is through such experiments that children develop an interest in scientific research and later end up making significant contributions in the fields of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and other streams of science.

IIS believes in nurturing a child’s inner researcher and scientist through well-stocked laboratories. Our labs are used for imparting knowledge in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, English (ESL), and Mathematics. All the necessary chemicals, specimens and instruments are available in adequate quantities to ensure that every student gets to carry out individual experiments. Experienced and qualified teachers oversee and guide the students in their experiments. Every child’s safety while handling chemicals and carrying out experiments is duly taken care of.

Library

There is no furniture so charming as books. So, how can an institution of learning not house a library? After all, libraries are places where people and information come together. School libraries do not just support the student population. They also allow the faculty members to access relevant resources and tools which they otherwise may not know of or have access to. Moreover, with the evolution of technology, digital libraries have come into existence making knowledge even more readily accessible – at your fingertips. However, even in the midst of the quickening pace of technological change, the role of libraries remain immutable. A school library brings with itself a great many benefits –

A well-stocked library brimming with books on a variety of fields sets into motion the ‘learner’s agency’, where children are free to initiate their own learning process, in their own pace and on their respective fields of interest.

Students acquire knowledge that is not limited to their curriculum books. This deepens and widens their thinking capacities

A library explains democracy in its truest sense where children, irrespective of their constraints and backgrounds are able to free dive into the depths of knowledge

A library also has a disciplinary function. It helps in developing a sense of discipline among the students as they are required to sit in quietude while carrying out their study or research

IIS believes that an on-campus library is integral to the teaching and learning process. Our library is stocked with books of academic interests, newspapers, journals, research papers, and various question papers from the previous years that assist the students in their academic preparations.

Sports

What is the immediate picture that comes to mind when we think of a playground? Most certainly an environment that is care-free, high-spirited and bursting forth with life. Play is often dismissed as an optional activity – an ‘extra’ – but nothing could be further from the truth. A playground, in reality, is but nature’s colourful classroom that proffers monumental learning occasions to children of all ages. When questioned why they enjoy running, jumping, swinging, and sliding, kids often reply with, “because it’s fun”, but the benefits of play go beyond just making the heart merry. Let’s look at some of them –

Play allows kids to stay physically fit and healthy. While playing, kids not only develop reflexes, movement controls, and motor skills but also build stronger muscles and bone density, and improved heart and lung function

Besides the palpable physical benefits, play also has three major internal benefits – building the child’s self-confidence, allowing them to experiment with different emotions, and purging of traumatic emotions

Through play, children develop various cognitive skills like language, reasoning, decision-making and problem-solving

Finally, spending most of their breaks and recess time in the playground with fellow schoolmates inculcates important values in children – inclusion, companionship, and teamwork In a nutshell, play allows kids to “put their learning into practice.”

We at IIS believe that play is not discrete from education, but an indispensable part of it. Our campus has been designed keeping in mind the children’s play needs. It is equipped with a standard indoor sports complex that includes a six-lane swimming pool, a gymnasium, playgrounds, game courts, and parklands. Outdoor sports such as swimming, lawn tennis, table tennis, squash, basketball, cricket, football, athletics, badminton, and yoga are offered. Children are trained for intra and inter-school tournaments, even District and National Level competitions by zealous and professional coaches.

Hostels

An on-campus hostel facility provides students from far off places, especially those from other nations with a sense of safety and belongingness. But, the benefits of hostel life are not merely limited to acting as a shelter home.

Life in the hostel is very disciplined. Children learn to live in an organized manner as there are fixed times for waking up, eating, play, sleeping and so on. This also ensures that their bio clock is not disturbed

Since most hostel rooms are available on a sharing basis, children learn the importance of cooperation

A child is likely to become more wise and independent since he or she is required to do all their work on their own – taking care of books, clothes, even money. This instils the child with a greater sense of responsibility and accountability

A hostel life keeps at bay feelings of loneliness as children are able to make new friends and are almost always surrounded by them. This also allows a child, especially the introverts to push past their comfort zones and develop meaningful relationships

Hostel life is also conducive to study as children of similar age-groups can come together in groups, sort out each others’ queries, exchange books, and so on

IIS also encourages a safe and enjoyable hostel life for its students by providing both weekly and regular on-campus residential facilities for students from Grade 3 through Grade 12. Weekly boarders reside from Monday to Friday following which they spend their weekends at home while regular boarders live on-campus throughout the academic year.

The hostel rooms are spacious and furnished with comfortable beds, allotted on a sharing basis of two or three students per room. Each residential facility houses a TV and a common study area. The common dining hall is the place where students enjoy wholesome meals together, offered from a varied menu that caters to the tastes of both Indian and International boarders.

The Indian International School’s Hostel Block is built within the pristine campus spread across 30 acres of forested parkland. The residential facility is available for students throughout the academic year. It offers weekly and regular boarding options for the students from Grade 3 to Grade 12. Weekly boarding students reside at school from Monday to Friday and return home for the weekends, whereas regular boarding students live in hostel throughout the academic year.

Rooms:

The hostels are quite spacious and are allocated on a shared basis to encourage socialization, emotional, and mental well-being. All the rooms are equipped with modern amenities of international standards such as comfortable furnishings, running hot/cold water, storage, and study area.

CCA:

Boarders and day scholars are encouraged to spend quality time during and after school hours. Here, at IIS, we encourage our students to do what they like to do best such as music, playing instruments, sports (indoor and outdoor), reading, or just plain lounging that creates that extra dimension in their lives. Each residential facility houses a TV room for students where they can watch their favorite shows or movies and a common study area for encouraging group studies.

Food:

At IIS, we have specially taken care of the quality of food. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served in the dining hall, which offers healthy and in-house cooked meals. We have a varied menu to cater to international and Indian boarding students.

Re-Creational Activities:

At IIS, we take studies seriously meanwhile motivating students to join their choice of co-curricular activities. Hikes, excursions, yoga camps, and adventure trips are exciting experiences that are all part of holistic education as IIT enabling students to evolve into confident and young leaders. These events also create opportunities for creativity, outdoor activities, and team building.
